STANDARD MAGNETIC CONTACTS

The Limitations of Standard Magnetic Contacts and the Consequences of Non-Standard Installation

Standard magnetic contacts feature limited design flexibility, often forcing technicians to resort to improvised solutions in order to adapt them to different types of frames.

Most of these are not specifically designed for all types of structures—such as sliding, casement frames, roller shutters, or security doors. Some are surface-mounted, others recessed, but without a unified, standardized installation method.

This results in significant inconsistency in installation from one technician to another:

Some choose to install them externally with screws, meeting only the minimum specifications, at the expense of the frame’s aesthetics.
Others attempt to integrate them internally using glue or adhesive strips, which creates a significant risk of detachment over time.

Improper installation can lead to serious malfunctions, such as:

* False alarms
* Zone isolation
* Inability to arm the system
* Interruption of automation functions, e.g., air conditioning
* Necessary technician visits, with associated cost and inconvenience.

It is also noteworthy that some security system installers completely skip perimeter protection, relying solely on external detectors for the entire system.
